Mr Freezy Created by Hamish Fletcher, Chris Kohn, Tamara Rewse and Sam Routledge A fun-filled ice-cream odyssey Riverside Theatres 21 & 22 June Arena Theatre Company in collaboration with Men of Steel presents Mr Freezy as part of the Education Season at Riverside Theatres on 21 and 22 June. With the characters created out of real food, utensils and packaging, Mr Freezy blends incredible puppetry with extraordinary set design and original music and takes its young audience on an exciting and messy exploration of bravery, loss and belonging. Mr Freezy tells the wild and epic story of an ice-cream van that comes alive as everything in it transforms. Scoopy is an ice-cream scoop who can't stand the cold or the brain freezes that come with his job and wonders if there is anything more to life than scooping ice-cream. When his home is endangered, he is called by Mr Freezy on a quest to distant and dangerous lands. On his travels, Scoopy encounters a world of robo-chickens, milkshake speedway racers and Godzilla-like food processing machines. “This is a fantastic introduction to the theatre for infants and primary school students. Mr Freezy is a fun and imaginative tale and Riverside Theatres is pleased to have such an innovative and engaging children’s performance as part of the Riverside Theatres Education Season” said Director of Riverside Theatres, Robert Love. Arena Theatre Company’s mission is to create inspiring live performances that have a genuine dialogue with young audiences. Established in 1966, the Company is one of Australia’s longest-running producers of theatre for young people aged 5 to 25 years. Based in Melbourne, Arena presents its works in major venues and festivals across Australia each year and has toured to New Zealand, Singapore, Taipei and the United Kingdom. Men of Steel was created by three of the Victorian College of Arts' finest puppeteers; Sam Routledge, Tamara Rewse and Hamish Fletcher, and sound designers Jared Lewis and Aaron Cuthbert. Men of Steel have delighted festival audiences throughout Australia and internationally. Their accolades include Festival Director's Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and the Green Room Award for Most Outstanding Ensemble of Performers.
